LFP vs NMC Batteries
LFP and NMC are two lithium-ion cathode chemistries. The letters name the metals in the cathode, not a vehicle class.

An Argonne National Laboratory report for the GREET model names two cathode materials. LFP is lithium iron phosphate, written LiFePO4. NMC is lithium nickel cobalt manganese oxide. The report uses one NMC ratio, LiNi0.4Co0.2Mn0.4O2, as its example. Other NMC ratios exist. This page does not read a ratio off a car name. [1]
A 2026 Argonne article compares projected cells. It says a cobalt-free manganese-rich cell is projected near 270 watt-hours per kilogram, and it says LFP averages around 210 watt-hours per kilogram in that comparison. Those are Argonne projections for the cells in the article. They are not a measurement of a catalog car. [2]
LFP and NMC are cathode names. They do not say whether the pack is a blade shape, a semi-solid cell, or a solid-state cell. A catalog match on the letters LFP or NMC only means the public text uses those letters. [1]
